2013 Naples Pelican Bay Rotary Mission to GUATEMALA
November 1-9, 2013
Our mission in concert with the Miracles in Action organization, provide Guatemalans living in extreme poverty with opportunities to help themselves through educational, vocational, and other sustainable projects. Now building there 43rd rural school, 7th library, 20th water system, and installing over 1900 safe, vented stoves and 600+ water purifiers.
Our Rotarian team lead by Francisco Colasso & Ed Livingston, will be visiting El Progresso, Jutiapa, Antigua (a UNESCO World Heritage site), visit Chapina stoves factory, visit CECAP vocational center in Santa Cruz where equipment and furniture was funded by a Rotary matching grant with our charity partner, Amigos De Santa Cruz. This is the center that creates all the beaded products that were such a sales success at Chalk Art 2012!!! They will be stopping at Tzanjomel School #31 located in a small Mayan Village where Miracles in Action funded the school building, playground, composting latrines, school garden and Rotary funded the salary of Montessori teacher, Marianne and Shad Qudsi?s organic farm teaching the local villagers about community gardening.
Our visiting Rotarians will be staying with mission families. They will be installing vented stoves and planting trees at the various village stops along the way, supported through donation dollars from Chalk Art 2012 and other Naples Pelican Bay Rotary fund raising events.
